Bike Lights
Let me tell you about Outbound Lighting, the only bike light my kids now refer to as “the daylight cannon.”
We recently did the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo race, where my daughter and son absolutely crushed it. Through dust, rocks, cacti, and questionable trail snacks, their Outbound lights lit up the night like a spaceship landing. These lights didn’t just perform—they performed. While other riders were fumbling through the dark like raccoons in a dumpster, my kids were gliding confidently like they had laser vision.
All night. Zero issues. The lights stayed bright, stable, and cool the entire ride. I’m pretty sure my daughter was using hers to signal aircraft at one point.
Now, here’s where it gets extra fun.
After the race, in the exhausted haze that follows 24 hours of mountain biking and too many granola bars, I somehow forgot to strap in my daughter’s front wheel on the bike rack. Then we drove 50+ miles down the highway. At some point, we noticed an odd scraping noise and discovered her bike had been getting dragged along the pavement like a forgotten sled. Sparks, horror, and the unmistakable sound of me questioning all my life choices.
The Outbound light? Still fine. Bar mount? Toasted.
I reached out to Outbound Lighting to confess the full tale of mechanical neglect and parental guilt, and you know what they did?
They sent a brand-new mount. For free. No questions asked. Possibly out of pity. Definitely out of amazing customer service.
So, if you’re looking for lights that’ll survive a race, a highway drag, and some solid human error—and a company that’ll still have your back afterward—buy Outbound.
They’re kid-tested, parent-screwed-up-approved.
Bought both kids outbound lights this season. This Nica team practices at night , they complained last season about night riding and not anymore.
The outdoor lights are impressive for the night trails. Sometimes, I cycle from 9pm until midnight, talk about confidence at night on the trail from easy trails to technical trails. I have mounting head lights and riding bike lights. I highly recommend Outbound Lightning.
The Outbound lights make the darkest rides my brightest rides. There are no other lights that even come close to them. I have had to explain to people that ask how many lumens they are. I say the right amount and they light up the trail. I have tried all kinds of lights from other light makers and these are by far the absolute best. The Sedona MTB Festival night ride is the absolute best part of that entire festival. Keep making kick ass lights!!
As Tony the Tiger would say, they’re great. The pair of lights I was using previously were pretty good but the battery life was short and the field of view was too narrow. The spotlight effect looked terrible on my camera footage too. My new OL lights are far better than the competition in just about every category. Great battery life, great field of view, and I love how they look on my helmet and bike. I feel more safe and secure on the trails and that helps me enjoy my rides more than before. That alone makes these lights worth every penny. Thanks, Matt and everyone else at OL for creating such a great product that helps us enjoy our sport so much more.
Best choice in lighting your nights while enjoying the trails. The battery is amazing and can light up for hours
Rode a trail at night recently in colorado. First time riding a trail at night. Started at sunset with a little sunlight. Ended in pitch black. I mounted light to the handle bars. It worked great, it was very stable and did not move at all on the fast, rocky downhill parts. Using the dimmest setting for the uphill climbs and the brightest setting for the downhill was the way I went. Great light, would highly recomend
I’ve had Hangover light for a while. It provides an amazing amount of illumination for early morning bike rides, when it’s still dark. I also have 2 motorcycles, and I’m on a constant mission to add safety margin where I can, including making sure I’m very visible to other vehicles. A family member of mine had a serious accident because someone turned left in front of him. They said they didn’t see him. Anyway, I tried the Portal first, and it was plenty bright, but I decided to go all out and order Trail Evo. I think it’ll be GREAT. Pictures included show my new Honda Dax 125 with Trail Evo on Medium (which means I’ll have 4.2 hours runtime!) and then Portal on High. The larger size of the Trail Evo makes it that much more eye catching, and in the unlikely event I ride after dark, I’m confident the Trail Evo will provide WAY more illumination than the Dax’s headlight. Since I’m going with the Trail Evo, I’ve already initiated return of the Portal light, and Outbound lighting was great to work with on that return.
Let’s start out by saying I am very impressed by the light and efficiency of both of these lights, back to the hangover helmet light this light gives you light right where you need it as you apex corner to corner, filling in the shadows that are always present with a bar light, thank you again I just received another KOM and multiple PB achievements on a night ride. Jump it, slide it, drop it, this combo light pack will bring clarity to even the darkest night rides.
Love this setup

Been riding for 20+ years but this light has totally opened up a whole new dimension of riding for me. As a new dad I needed to find time to squeeze in rides. Good morning, alarm clock. Hello there, Outbound Detour.
Exactly the right tool for the job. So simple and it just plain works. 10/10. Get after it, boys and girls 🫡
After just one use im blown away. I feel like I can ride just as fast at night now. Battery life seems great. They stay much cooler than expected and I love the easy locking mount. Looking forward to breaking these in!
Bought mount to attach to bike computer for gravel rig, works perfect!
Outbound Lighting rocks! Not only are their products top-notch, but their customer service is beyond compare! We had a “mishap” with a helmet light, due to a crash on a MTB trail ripping it off its mount. When we couldn’t find a replacement part on the website, we reached out to customer service. Jason quickly answered and, upon seeing the pictures of the damage, offered a replacement light. Even more telling of the respect Outbound has for its customers and its products is that Jason asked for us to ship the damaged light back, so they could try to analyze how they could make it better. Such commitment to excellence is sadly all-too-rare these days!
I’m attaching a pic of some of the Tuesday night MTB crew, who, as you can see, are loyal Outbound fans!

I was in the market for some new lights and had an opportunity to demo OL lights from a friend. I was sold immediately and purchased the EVO/Hangover package What I like: The EVO is the first bar light I feel I could use without the support of a helmet light. The beam pattern is wide and very bright but not washout bright. The Hangover is really light and feels balanced on the helmet. Additionally, I've been using my Hangover for backcountry skiing and it's been a solid performer. The adaptive mode works well and provides enough time for a serious night ride/ski. All around these are solid lights and to me were a worthwhile investment. If using for backcountry you may want to purchase a Gopro compatible headband. This way, you can use the light for the climb and quickly move to your helmet for the descent.
I’ve only done 1 predawn ride since switching to the OL Detour, but it was great to have oncoming trail users not have to shield their eyes as I approached.
