Product Development Engineer (Mechanical)
Outbound Lighting is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who is interested in designing the next generation of bike lights for mountain biking and road biking,
We are a rapidly growing Direct-To-Consumer company specializing in design, engineering, manufacturing, production, along with top notch customer service. We have strong ties to the rally racing and mountain biking community as well. By joining our team of six, you will play an integral part in growing and defining our product lineup for years to come.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in product development from concept to production within a corporate or highly structured setting. We are looking to use your experience to better define our processes and improve our design cycles.
You'll have access to all our prototyping tools, and be expected to work independently to take control of the entire development process.
This will require in-office work, M-F from 9am till 5pm. Cannot be full remote.
Minimum requirements
• 3-5 years of work experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Strong experience with Solidworks.
• Experience designing injection molded and machined parts.
• Must be flexible and adaptable. For example, you may design a part for injection molding in the morning, switch to making a 3d printed production jig, and then concept packaging for a new product release.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn and innovate.
Responsibilities
• Design and engineer high quality, innovative consumer facing products and components.
• Support production and manufacturing through designing parts for automation, working closely with production engineering, and develop packaging.
• Develop drawings and specifications for manufacturers to follow.
• Work closely with suppliers to support production startup, first samples, tweaks, and sustaining tasks.

Product Development Engineer (Electrical)
Outbound Lighting is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer who is interested in accelerating the introduction of the next generation of bike lights to market.
We are a rapidly growing Direct-To-Consumer company specializing in design, engineering, manufacturing, production, along with top notch customer service. We have strong ties to the rally racing and mountain biking community as well. By joining our team of six, you will play an integral part in growing and defining our product lineup for years to come.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in product development from concept to production, corporate or highly structured work backgrounds are a plus for transferring new designs into production. This engineer will be responsible for circuitry and firmware development for LED drivers, battery management, and microcontroller architecture, including wireless controls and GUIs. Full project management from fabricating and validating prototype designs all the way through management for production at out PCBA vendor, this position will have opportunity to push the envelope with new concept and manufacturing methods such as IME. We are looking to use your experience to better define our processes and improve our design cycles.
You'll have access to all our prototyping tools, and be expected to work closely with the co-owner and electrical engineering manager to ownership of the entire development process. You will coordinate with the mechanical engineering team with a focus on DFMA integrating into new products.
Hours expectations are M-F from 9am till 5pm. In-office work in Bellingham, WA preferred, remote work is possible.
Minimum requirements
• 2-3 years of work experience in electrical design engineering, preferably in consumer products.
• Strong experience with either AutoCAD Eagle, or KiCAD, or Altium.
• Firmware experience in C/C+ strongly preferred.
• Experience designing custom PCBs and utilizing basic lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and metrology to validate designs.
• Must be flexible and adaptable. For example, you may design a 4-layer PCB in the morning, switch to building a physical prototype, troubleshoot a production line QC issue, modify firmware, and investigate new R&D concepts in the afternoon.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn and innovate. Must be able to figure shit out.
Responsibilities
• Design and engineer high quality, innovative consumer facing products and components for manufacturing at scale through strong DFMA principles.
• Support production and manufacturing through designing parts for assembly, working closely with production engineering, and PCBA vendor management.
• Develop prototypes for in-house validation testing.
• Creation, modification, and management of firmware.
