solid lights, with some drawbacks
I love the philosophy of better light not brighter light and these lights deliver that easily. The buttons are super intuitive and work well with gloves. The mounts feel solid and thought out. The build quality is pretty nice compared to a lot of their competition.
I almost returned the lights when I first tried to charge them. None of my very standard USBC cables fit with the light, and I have a lot of options. The only cables that I can fit with the light are the ones that came with it. It completely defeats the purpose of using USBC if it doesn't fit a standard cable. I also hate that the cable is USBA to USBC. Its 2025, of all my USBC chargers only 1 has a USBA port. This wouldn't be an issue if standard USBC cables fit.
The EVO mount is cool and I really appreciate how simple it is, but mine is pretty sticky. I have to jam the light in and yank it out a little more than I would expect. It hasn't fallen off though so that is a plus. Its a very solid mount.
The portal is just too heavy. I mounted it in the best spot on my helmet for the tape pads to line up with the ridges of the helmet (giro). Its about 50mm forward of the peak. Its too much weight for the helmet to hold it in this position and not move without the closure strap being very tight. Headache inducing tight. I will have to find a way to fill the gap between the ridges and move it back a bit, hopefully that will help balance it better. I like having integrated batteries but I would like it better if there was a way to split off the battery and mount it to the back of the helmet to balance it better. I have had nightrider and ay-up lights that do that and I've never had a weight issue with those.
Overall these lights are great. I think that over time I will move them more towards the 5 star position. Especially if they hold up over time.
