USB C-to-C cable for those that are ahead of the game and have USB-C chargers laying around.
We designed this plug not to be some proprietary plug to force you into our eco-system or anything. It was designed so that it could seal the light while you utilize pass-through-charging.
We don't want to make a killing on this, so this is literally what the cord costs us after manufacturing, shipping, warehousing, etc.
Extra long at 36" because no one likes being tethered to a charger, as well as giving you the option to have a battery pack at the bottom of your backpack or hip pack and charge lights like the Trail Evo or Hangover while in use.
The cable itself is fine. The issue is that these lights have a small opening around the USB-C port so you can't put any old USB-C cable into it to charge. None of my normal USB-C cables work with it. It seems to be designed that way to allow the rubber seal built into this cable to provide water resistance when using an external battery with it. These issues aren't mutually exclusive and it could be designed to both support any old USB-C cable (as they aren't much bigger) and still support a rubber seal for the few people who want to use external batteries.
You're (mostly) completely correct. We did indeed design our cables to interface with the ligth shell so it would seal really well, particularly for Evo mounted on the bar with wheel spray going right at the charge port on wet rides, coupled with extreme vibration wanting to work cables loose, and in doing so we undersized the plug head just a hair from a lot of standard cables. Not all cables, since there are no standards on the shroud dimensions around USB-C tongue itself. That was not intentional, we just didn't realize how many 3rd party cables would be impacted by that until we had many thousands of these out in the field, and were then faced with a choice of either redesigning everything around a new standard and splitting our line and causing seal issues on future products and generally creating confusion, or pricing our cables much less than others and often just giving people cables if it's that big a hassle and they ask nice, since our goal here was not to make something proprietary. So all that is to say: I hope the cable itself actually works well for you, and I completely understand the frustration with 3rd party cable compatibility. When Trail Evo gets a generational update, this will be addressed.
My light doesn't work with most of the USB-C cables I have, so I don't like that, but this cable is well made and works well, and is priced very well.
Great cables as always from these guys
Running the Evo hangover combo for the last year or so and couldn't be happier. I lost a small port cover and contacted outbound. They sent one out immediately free of charge. They also tossed in a couple of charging cables per my request and saved me the shipping charges. Awesome company can't recommend enough.
Will use as plug for external battery/ powerbank for longer rides. Provides a good seal to prevent water ingress.
I almost ran into a person dressed in black on a pitch black trail before sunrise. It was at that moment I knew I needed a solid light. Outbound lighting was recommend by my LBS and coworkers. I received my Trail EVO the day before a group sunrise ride. The video is taken on the same trail that I almost hit a walker before sunrise. I won’t have that problem again! This light is the bomb and it looks amazing mounted on the bike.
