I’ve used many, and I mean many, lights over the years for commuting and general riding when it’s dark. None have come close to this light in reference to brightness and enabling me to see what is directly in front of me as well as what is approaching.

I admit I hesitated to purchase the light due to the cost. However, the cumulative amount I’ve spent on other lights is much more. I believe this light is the perfect light I’ve been searching for and it will serve me well.

My Detour is about 3 years old, and has been with me as the “see” or “be seen” light on most rides since. Maybe 500 of them. It’s a fabulous light that I recommend. Solidly built, works exactly as described, battery life is same as new, well supported, and I prefer to buy American. Aesthetically the light’s center-of-bike location looks nicely integrated. Know that it’s a low beam pattern, which is excellent for oncoming traffic but doesn’t shine up and around sharp corners RBing or illuminate overhead items MBing. Wearing a Hangover Light on your helmet nicely complements the Detour if overhead viewing is needed. Sometimes I tilt the Detour up a bit, like if the day’s route includes tunnels, to improve view upward. Take care to insert light foot in mount gently, to reduce long term wear. Occasionally check and adjust light aim by pointing it at a level distant surface when mounted on the bike.

Hands down, the best light in the market. Mounts in the center of your handle bars, multiple settings, battery lasts forever, 3 year warranty, great customer service etc. I highly recommend.

I have had the detour for about a year after having the original Trail and then the Trail Evo. I use it a couple of times per week for most of the year and it's nearly perfect. With a couple of tweaks, it would be absolutely perfect. As is, the detour is great when it's not completely dark or if you are riding in a straight line. It is (as advertised) like the low beam on a car, which is great except that cars also have high beams. The beam cutoff is so sharp that you can't even read a street sign sign if it's too high or see where you're going as you turn. The next detour needs a high beam! Also (minor point), if you mount the detour under a bike computer on a combo mount, the computer blocks the battery indicator lights, which has occasionally lead to a nasty surprise when the battery is low. It would be marvelous if the indicator lights were to the side along with that high beam button.
