Good light for road and tame gravel, not recommended for more technical gravel

I bought this light with high hopes thinking it would be a game-changer for my night gravel rides, but it's actually a bit of a downgrade from my super cheap lights. When riding straight it lights up the way really well, better than most lights I've used. But as soon as a sharp turn comes there's a terrible dark spot right where light is needed. To the point that it's caused me to crash because I couldn't tell how sharp a turn was. For a dedicated gravel light this one doesn't cut it for me.

Well that's not good at all! It sounds like you're approaching some significant lean angles at high speed on gravel, for applications like that we typically supplement with a helmet light like Hangover, since Detour is optimized for road and great in high-traffic areas to avoid blinding traffic, but when you're out in the woods on more undulating gravel and less traffic the helmet light can help fill in where the cut-off beam falls short. I'll shoot you an email so we can discuss ways to either make this work for you, or take the light back for a refund if you'd rather go in a different direction, as it seems entirely related to beam pattern and your specific use case.

Let there be light!

The light was well packed and easy to unbox. Attached easily to my handlebars and just took a few minutes to adjust the aim of the beam. I am on the road before the sun comes and this light has been amazing so far. The cutoff allows me to extend the center of the beam much further than my previous headlight and the peripheral lighting is something that I didn't know I needed, but couldn't live without now. A+ product and will buy another when this one wears out!

worth the money

Much better than the many cheaper lights I've used in the past. No regrets.

The Best!

The detour light is the best light I have ever owned. The pass through charging lets you go long with confidence.

Great light!

I purchased this light about three months ago and wanted to spend some time using it before writing my review. Since then, I have ridden close to 900 miles, with most of my training sessions taking place before sunrise. I was searching for a light bright enough to clearly illuminate the road ahead, yet not so intense that it would blind oncoming traffic. I believe the cutoff beam does a great job of this. Most of my rides are on small roads with minimal street lighting.
The light has exceeded my expectations, even during bouts of light rain. On most rides, I use the adaptive mode, which works wonderfully—I hardly notice any dimming as the ride progresses. In adaptive mode, I consistently achieve more than three hours and twenty minutes of runtime, which is impressive, though I’m unsure if this is typical performance.
The light easily brightens one lane of the road, and compared to other cyclist lights I’ve used, the Detour light offers much better coverage and light distribution. I took a picture of a dark road to show the difference between the light being on and off, but, honestly, the photo doesn’t do it justice due to the iPhone’s image processing.
I don’t need to remove the light from its base frequently, but when I do, I don’t find it difficult to remove or install, contrary to what some other reviews mention. Additionally, I haven’t experienced the light getting hot—even after three hours of runtime, the body remains cool enough to touch.
The only negative I’ve encountered occurred last week, when the mount loosened slightly mid-ride and the light began to rotate downward. I didn’t have the correct Allen key to tighten the bolt. Since the mount is plastic, I wonder if its flexibility could cause it to loosen over time, but so far, this has been a minor issue.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the performance of this light and would recommend it to others seeking a reliable cycling light for low-light conditions.

Automotive headlights
For your bike

Bringing our automotive lighting experience to provide a clean cut-off beam pattern that evenly illuminates the road ahead. You wouldn't use a flashlight for your car, why use it for your bike?

Optical Engineering

This is the game changer. Not only did we bring the automotive grade cutoff beam pattern to your handlebars, we took it a step further by precisely controlling how much light leaves the light and hits the ground from the front of your tire all the way up to where you are looking. When you read "it's like riding in daylight" this is why.

We are the only USA-based manufacturer of cutoff (also referred to as StVZO) beam pattern bike lights, we also made sure the light has unreal width to light up the ditches and keep the spooky things away.

Detour was designed with your ride in mind. Long runtime, easy mounting, broad panoramic beam, fast USB-C charging, and all backed by industry leading customer service.

Rock Solid Mounting

A good light isn’t so good if
it’s bouncing up and down on the bars all the time. That’s why we made a bolt-on clamp mount for Detour so it’s solidly locked to the bar, With a simple shim it adapts from 35mm to 31.8mm handlebars (25.4 and 22mm shims available) and the beam won’t shake around like lights with rubber strap mounts do.

Keep Life Simple

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses to get to the mode you want.

USB-C pass-Thru Charging

We were one of the first to offer USB-C charging as standard, except we took it a step further by offering pass-through charging as well. This lets you plug in any USB power bank and charge the light while in use,
in any mode. Game changer for 24 hour races and extra long night rides!

Keeping Cool

When you pick up this light you might be surprised to not feel any metal. Plastic?! Must be something we used to be cheap isn't it? Far from it. This material we use is an incredibly cool (ha) engineered resin that is not only very durable, but also conducts heat. The result is a lightweight, durable, and thermally balanced light housing.

Make your Night ride enjoyable.

It can be sketchy riding at night when you are used to narrow beam patterns better suited for walking in the backyard. Our incredible optical engineering makes riding at night a joy again.
