Portal Downhill Package (Evo & Portal)

This combo was a total game changer for night riding. It completely eliminates shadows and always has light where ever you’re looking even through turns. I ride trails just as fast at night as I do during the day.

I have ridden and raced MTB with lights for almost as long as I've ridden but never felt compelled or comfortable enough with what I had to actually WANT to ride at night. I just remember the endless black tunnel hurtling towards me as I try to race though scrub, trees and rocks downhill.
I am excited to say this has now changed thanks to these lights! I am a dad of small children so getting out on the bike is hard during normal hours unless I bring them. But about a year ago, I gave these lights a shot and was immediately impressed. Of course, its not the same as riding in the day but you can't expect it to be, but that 'endless tunnel of dark' is gone and I can competently enjoy myself on the trails. I don't even think twice about going out in the dark anymore, I recently had an early morning ride that wound up shortly after sunset, I didn't feel like I needed daylight riding hours to make it worth it.
It's a different type of trail riding but in a good and exciting way. The bonus is, I can use these lights for any kind of riding in the dark now. I even pack them to take away on riding holidays where we deliberately go out at night to experience the trails and location at night!
I am pleased to announce, after a year of use, that night riding is actually a thing, thanks to Outbound Lighting! Legends.

I now have 2 sets of OL lights so I can have a friend or family member do night rides with me. Everyone is always blown away by how bright these lights are and how fun trail rides are at night!

Grabbed these lights and took them out to do group night rides. First was a trail group ride and they lit up the trail great! Left them on adaptive mode and never saw the transition but I know they did. Second time went on group downhill and kept them on low. Still had plenty of light on low setting! Very excited to have these to ride at night especially once the weather gets too hot during the day!

For commuting and recreational biking.

I rarely use this light because I do NOT like the mounting design and the handlebar clamp. The mount design is horrible.

Need to design a garmin/GoPro mount and more versatile handlebar clamp.

I will not be recommending this product to friends.

I bought the Portal and Trail EVO light set. Used them for the first time last night and I am very happy with them. The Portal is well balanced on my helmet and no cord is great. Light everywhere I look. The Trail EVO illuminates the trail ahead very well, does not bounce around while descending through rock gardens, and is also great to not have a cord.
Only pseudo-negative mark is that the bar mount with the Trail EVO did not have a correctly sized shim so I had to improvise with some cut up tubes. That said, there are a variety of bar sizes and trying to match them all probably isn’t feasible from a mass production perspective. Also, my bike is 23 years old and bars were a bit smaller diameter back then :^)
Overall, solid five stars. Charging instructions are the same for both lights. Light output selection system is identical so I don’t have to remember different sequences and numbers of lights to get the same output. The adaptive mode worked great! Very happy and only regret is that I did not buy them sooner.
Oh, and the warranty! So cool! My first ride with the lights and there is funky cave through jumbled boulders on the trail I’m riding. I’ve ridden the trail dozens of times before so I know how low to duck my head. Well, I didn’t think about the extra height on my helmet with the light attached to it. Crunched my new light into the ceiling of the cave hard. Not even a scratch!!! But even if I had broken the light, it was SO NICE not feeling that sick anxiety of having to replace the light.
