great light! Great folks!

I had a Bitberger NA beer puncture in my ortlieb pannier. :(. When I got home I found that my beloved Portal helmet light had drowned in the beer. :( :(:(. I reached out to OutBound and Jason responded. He sent me a warranty replacement! It doesn't get any better than that! They make the best hard core mtb lights and they have amazing customer service. No wonder I'm a loyal customer! Thanks for being awsome in a world of poopheads.

Got safey through pitch -black tunnel

Got this light to go through the pitch-black Snoqualmie. WA rail-to-trial tunnel- a 5 mi round trip- on a day when 400 other attendees were doing the same trip. Got safely though and missed all pedestrians! Great lights!

New to night riding

The portal inspires confidence and keeps away the doubts as we rode through dark forests and cast long shadows. The wide, even beam of light and the intensity work to make for an awesome ride.

Super bright!

I actually picked this light back in November, and used it by itself over the winter/early spring for night rides. With the Portal, I didnt need my lame, tiny, bar mounted lights.
I will say the Portal is a bit on the heavy side. Not too heavy...but certainly worth considering.
But regardless, you won't be disappointed!

Get both

Hey!
So, I finally used my portal light at night! I got stuck on top of a mountain thinking there was a campground at the top (big time NO) and decided to wend my way down (and somehow alot of up) the mountain to the nearest town. And since I was on top of the mountain around 7:30 pm, had to get the portal out of the tailfin and give it a whirl.
Well, first thing i’ll say is, whoever came up with the adaptive brightness is genius. The light seemed to adjust to the setting I was in, when I was bushwhacking and more in the open it was less pronounced, but when said bushwhacking led to a cooler and darker location, wowza did I see everything I needed to. I rode, bc i was desparate to get down, and the portal really shined my path for me.

Well, then it got real dark. This thing was insanely bright, with a wide spread. I felt safe when I was back on a human made road, but on the “singletrack” and gravel descents I was pissed scared, heading right for oblivion if a magical pothole or something should appear, or some massive rock. Doing the descents with just the portal was scary. I tried to adjust the angle, but could just never get a good enough view of the ground. Maybe I placed wrong on my helmet, but it became abundantly clear that I should have gotten both of the lights in the downhill package. When the money comes in next, i’m gonna buy the handlebar one and figure out how to attach it to my aerobars.

Either way, between my varia and the portal, i felt more safe than I’ve ever felt. I haven’t ridden much at night, but believe i might cycle better at night rather than in the day - and the downhill package is gonna get me there! Now if only it didnt take forever for the lights to charge!!

Over and above

The lights and the customer service will exceed your expectations!

Bigger 21700 battery!

In order to hit the same runtime as Trail Evo, and have higher peak brightness than Hangover we shoved a 5,000 mAH genuine Samsung 50E 21700 battery cell and wrapped the light around it.

This results in 43% more capacity over our Hangover light, meaning far longer runtimes (up to 2.5 hours on adaptive, a 50% increase over Hangover).

Even brighter!

While more lumens isn't always the answer, we added in some more brightness and increased the beam pattern width over Hangover to provide even more punch down the trail.

New finely tuned optics with 30% larger TIR cones means higher optical efficiency and more peripheral light to help spot the spooky stuff.

Simple User Interface

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, so we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated button presses get to the mode you want.

Portal’s soft-touch overmolded top shell has a single, large button right in the middle that’s easy to feel through a thick winter glove in the dark, so you don’t have to hunt blindly around on top of your head just to turn it on.
