Our original Road Edition set the bar high for the last several years. So we were challenged on how to improve it.

Right away, we've ditched the large battery pack. This is all internal, self contained, USB-C rechargeable, and slim enough to fit in your pocket.

Then we fine tuned the heck out of the beam pattern. Extremely smooth and progressive light field from the front of your tire all the way to where you are looking. We also added sidemarker lights to help with visibility from the side, much like on cars.

We've incorporated our quick-release fiberglass-reinforced nylon mount that we, ahem, “borrowed” from those clever camera guys to keep everything pointing in the right direction and easy to put on and take off with one hand.

We do have a custom mount solution to fit underneath most bike computers for that clean and tucked look: Quick Release Action Camera Adapter

Proudly and capably made just down the road in Chicago IL.

The best

I have had a Detour, Evo and hangover light for 3 years now. They are absolutely spectacular lights, and the way Outbound handles customer service is top notch. They have earned a solid amount of brand loyalty from me.

After long use I do have a few nitpicks / suggestions. None of this should hold anyone back it is just the kind of stuff I would bring up in a design review to help the team make things even better in future iterations (which I will almost certainly buy, see comment about brand loyalty)
My biggest issue is a more of a wish list item. Fairly often I find myself carrying both the detour and EVO as many of my rides mix road and trail miles. I wish there was a hybrid; basically the evo with a low beam mode. I don't care if it has to be bigger to fit the optics, the versatility would be more than worth it.
Relatedly, I feel like there is a slight mismatch between the ideal beam angles of the detour and evo which is annoying to have to adjust when I swap.
Finally I have a minor issue with the pass through charging. It might be better if the lights did not actually charge when both plugged in and on. Especially with the light in low (like you would for over nite self supported stuff) If you run the battery down then plug in the pass through, the pack will try to charge the lights internal battery as well as run it, and when the pack runs out out the light will start using that built up internal charge, but there are some major efficiency losses transferring power between batteries. Worst case you might waste 20% of your external packs capacity. Running pass-through from the start avoids this issue, but the point stands.

Again, I can not overstate how awesome Outbound is, both company and product. See you on the trail!

Detour bike light

The light itself is fantastic and the best I have ever used. It's incredibly bright and the battery lasts as advertised. I had an issue with a 18 month old light and Outbound immediately took care of the issue. Great customer service.

great lights

Outbound makes great lights. I bought the Detour and Hangover lights for my Davis Double century. The lights are very bright and cover a wide area ahead in the dark. I initially kept both helmet and front lights on medium and then switched them to low. When the sun came up, I turned lights off and turned them back on low at sunset. They lasted the entire ride with still green lights showing at the end of a 15 hours ride. I couldn't be happier. The detour light is little tricky to get off the mount but both are incredibly sturdy and stayed in placed in gravel and road conditions. Highly recommend.

So much light on a mtb ride I was able to avoid running over the tiniest baby snake at speed!

Automotive headlights
For your bike

Bringing our automotive lighting experience to provide a clean cut-off beam pattern that evenly illuminates the road ahead. You wouldn't use a flashlight for your car, why use it for your bike?

Optical Engineering

This is the game changer. Not only did we bring the automotive grade cutoff beam pattern to your handlebars, we took it a step further by precisely controlling how much light leaves the light and hits the ground from the front of your tire all the way up to where you are looking. When you read "it's like riding in daylight" this is why.

We are the only USA-based manufacturer of cutoff (also referred to as StVZO) beam pattern bike lights, we also made sure the light has unreal width to light up the ditches and keep the spooky things away.

Rock Solid Mounting

A good light isn’t so good if
it’s bouncing up and down on the bars all the time. That’s why we made a bolt-on clamp mount for Detour so it’s solidly locked to the bar, With a simple shim it adapts from 35mm to 31.8mm handlebars (25.4 and 22mm shims available) and the beam won’t shake around like lights with rubber strap mounts do.

Keep Life Simple

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses to get to the mode you want.

USB-C pass-Thru Charging

We were one of the first to offer USB-C charging as standard, except we took it a step further by offering pass-through charging as well. This lets you plug in any USB power bank and charge the light while in use,
in any mode. Game changer for 24 hour races and extra long night rides!

Keeping Cool

When you pick up this light you might be surprised to not feel any metal. Plastic?! Must be something we used to be cheap isn't it? Far from it. This material we use is an incredibly cool (ha) engineered resin that is not only very durable, but also conducts heat. The result is a lightweight, durable, and thermally balanced light housing.

Make your Night ride enjoyable.

It can be sketchy riding at night when you are used to narrow beam patterns better suited for walking in the backyard. Our incredible optical engineering makes riding at night a joy again.
