Our original Road Edition set the bar high for the last several years. So we were challenged on how to improve it.

Right away, we've ditched the large battery pack. This is all internal, self contained, USB-C rechargeable, and slim enough to fit in your pocket.

Then we fine tuned the heck out of the beam pattern. Extremely smooth and progressive light field from the front of your tire all the way to where you are looking. We also added sidemarker lights to help with visibility from the side, much like on cars.

We've incorporated our quick-release fiberglass-reinforced nylon mount that we, ahem, “borrowed” from those clever camera guys to keep everything pointing in the right direction and easy to put on and take off with one hand.

We do have a custom mount solution to fit underneath most bike computers for that clean and tucked look: Quick Release Action Camera Adapter

Proudly and capably made just down the road in Chicago IL.

Just a really excellent light

I’ve been waiting to leave this review until I had a chance to properly use the light at night. It’s been on my bike for commuting and daytime rides since I got it and it’s just stellar. I went with the GoPro mount underneath a k-edge and it is most certainly the best designed bike light mount I’ve ever used. There’s no rattle, no slippage, no shaking, and no constant fiddling to get it right.

The preset brightness and flash settings are easy to navigate. Not to mention that the beam angle and cutoff just works so well. I found it appeared brighter than my 2 other lights that tout a higher lumen max.

A small detail that I love is the fact that the battery level is clearly indicated right on top of the light. Not having to guess if it’s got a charge makes me so happy it’s almost embarrassing.

If I had one thing to change, I wouldn’t mind if the battery lasted just a bit longer. That being said, I appreciate how light and slim the detour is and recognize that more battery life would likely mean a bigger overall unit.

Bravo, outbound. I love this thing and was happy to know my purchase supported a small company. You guys rock!

OL Detour: A++

Admittedly, I’m not one to post many reviews, nor am I easily impressed. However, my experience with Outbound Lighting has been so awesome, I’d be remiss not to share. So after weeks of researching the overwhelming number of brands and styles of lights, reading and watching countless videos, learning about beam patterns, lux, StVZO standards, and color temperatures, for my gravel bike - for both commuter and trail use - I came across Outbound Lighting. To be honest, I was looking for a lamp under $100, and with so many options out there, I was a hesitant to make the investment. So I continued to search, comparing the Detour to all of the top rated/most reviewed lamps out there. I knew that I wanted something powerful enough to illuminate dark trails and side streets, while also being safe enough to not dazzle drivers while navigating city streets. This, of course, is no easy feat. Most lamps seem to only do one or another well. The more I searched, the more obvious this became. I finally decided that making the investment with OL was the way to go. Boy am I happy I did!

This lamp is packed with features and a simple, utilitarian, yet attractive design with a secure GoPro style locking mechanism. It sits nice and flush in the center of the handle bars, so there’s no drag and it’s quite inconspicuous. The cut-off beam not only provides excellent peripheral illumination, but great ground lighting as well, with the light hitting from the middle of the front tire on. This is ideal for being able to see potholes, dips, objects, etc on roads and trails (while also being highly visible to drivers coming from side streets, garages, etc). I can’t tell you how many I’ve avoided due to this feature. I cannot say enough about this lamp! It has become my ride or die cycling companion through all seasons, as I am a daily commuter and riding enthusiast. I have no cons at all!

On top of this being a top-tier lamp, the customer service and warranty is unmatched. Right at the two year mark of me owning it, I had an issue. I reached out to customer service and received a prompt response from a human being with no hassle whatsoever. Jason was thorough and empathetic in addressing my concerns. Before I knew it, I was back in the saddle with no out of pocket costs! It was arguably the best customer service experience I’ve had in years! I love everything about this light and company and I recommend it to any rider, at any level.

f you’ve read this far, stop contemplating, add it to your cart, and make the purchase… you will not regret it!

Automotive headlights
For your bike

Bringing our automotive lighting experience to provide a clean cut-off beam pattern that evenly illuminates the road ahead. You wouldn't use a flashlight for your car, why use it for your bike?

Optical Engineering

This is the game changer. Not only did we bring the automotive grade cutoff beam pattern to your handlebars, we took it a step further by precisely controlling how much light leaves the light and hits the ground from the front of your tire all the way up to where you are looking. When you read "it's like riding in daylight" this is why.

We are the only USA-based manufacturer of cutoff (also referred to as StVZO) beam pattern bike lights, we also made sure the light has unreal width to light up the ditches and keep the spooky things away.

Detour was designed with your ride in mind. Long runtime, easy mounting, broad panoramic beam, fast USB-C charging, and all backed by industry leading customer service.

Rock Solid Mounting

A good light isn’t so good if
it’s bouncing up and down on the bars all the time. That’s why we made a bolt-on clamp mount for Detour so it’s solidly locked to the bar, With a simple shim it adapts from 35mm to 31.8mm handlebars (25.4 and 22mm shims available) and the beam won’t shake around like lights with rubber strap mounts do.

Keep Life Simple

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses to get to the mode you want.

USB-C pass-Thru Charging

We were one of the first to offer USB-C charging as standard, except we took it a step further by offering pass-through charging as well. This lets you plug in any USB power bank and charge the light while in use,
in any mode. Game changer for 24 hour races and extra long night rides!

Keeping Cool

When you pick up this light you might be surprised to not feel any metal. Plastic?! Must be something we used to be cheap isn't it? Far from it. This material we use is an incredibly cool (ha) engineered resin that is not only very durable, but also conducts heat. The result is a lightweight, durable, and thermally balanced light housing.

Make your Night ride enjoyable.

It can be sketchy riding at night when you are used to narrow beam patterns better suited for walking in the backyard. Our incredible optical engineering makes riding at night a joy again.
