Best light in the business

I’ve been night riding for 30+ years. I’ve used or had experiences with almost every light manufacturer out there. Outbound lighting is far and above the best product and company I’ve had the pleasure of working with. The lights have a broad reach with no hot spots. They are quick to charge with a great run time and work flawlessly every time. Coming from an era of wires, wireless is a game changer. I’ve been using outbound for about 5 years now and everyone on my bike team has now switched to outbound as well. But, the true testament is their customer service. Last year I had a head-on collision with a tree and broke the magnesium casing of my hangover helmet light as well as my helmet and glasses. I contacted outbound and asked them if there’s any way that I could buy a new part to try and fix the light. Not only was the answer yes but they did it for me at no extra cost in about a week. Again, when I say they are the best in the business, I mean it. They are the best in the business!
Viva la Outbound Lighting!!!

Detour Road Bike Light

Excellent light with the performance we’ve come to expect from Outbound Lighting. Bright, excellent coverage and great battery life. Easy to charge, easy to mount and a solid light from top to bottom. If you are considering one of their lights, just remember that their customer service, is second to none. Hands down, the absolute best. If you have an issue, be kind, be respectful and they will take care of you 10 fold!!! Be a jerk and you’re sol!!!

Great road light

I've commuted year-round in New England for about 14 years, so I've done many hundreds of night rides. I just replaced a well-loved Busch and Muller light that didn't survive a rainstorm with the Detour.

The good: Good range of light output from "very bright" to "nice for the suburban parts of my commute". Well thought out mounting systems. Good, simple controls. Very good (possibly excellent) battery life. Beam shape, including the cutoff at the top is good.

The could-be-improved: The handlebar mount was not my favorite. My commuter bike has a handlebar bag, so that was in the way. The handlebar-like attachment on my fork crown mount meant that the Detour installed about 4 inches off-center, which was a little annoying. I bought 2 of the GoPro mounts and 3D printed a fork crown to GoPro mount and that seems to be working well. The bigger issue I have is that the rubber USB flap on the bottom isn't staying closed and I'm worried I'm going to get water in this unit as well.

Suggestions: Offer a choice of mounts when ordering. Beef up the design of the USB port cover.

First, we should get the USB door addressed, as that is not a feature of the design, so if yours isn't staying closed that's not OK and should be fixable.

As for mounts, we're making some more mounting options now that we're growing out customer based, didn't make sense when we were just starting out but now there's more demand so we're adding to it over time. The fork crown mounts we didn't make initially for Detour though because we optimized that beam pattern around handlebar height mounting, putting it closer to the ground will make the intensity unbalanced towards the foreground and lead to some stark shadows from the tire, so we focused instead on bar mounting. We do have some preliminary extended bar mounts that may give you the clearance you need over your bar bag, depending on make/model/etc, shoot us some details if you want to try that path and we'll figure it out!
