THE EVOLUTION of the downhill: WHY WE DESIGNED THIS package
Pushing your bike as hard as you do in the daytime requires some intense design requirements. A wide field of view, ability to see downrange and recognize objects quickly, and more importantly, an unbroken wall of light to keep your mind sharp and focused.
The Evo Downhill Package does just this, by pairing the extremely wide and powerful Trail Evo on the handlebars, and the lightweight and punchy Hangover on the helmet to give you an unwavering wall of light, even in the tightest of switchbacks. It's a package that needs to be seen to believe!
We meticulously tune our beam patterns in-house with LucidShape software over hundreds of hours to create a custom optic design for every light we make. These aren’t off-the-shelf flashlight reflectors with simple round spot beams. All the designing, simulating, prototyping, and trail testing is to ensure you get the most out of every lumen produced by aiming them exactly where they need to go on the trail. We are not doing surgery with sledgehammers, we are the robotically-controlled laser scalpels.
With the Evo DH Package, we balanced the output and beams to complement each other perfectly. Evo on the bars gives a super-wide and even breadth of coverage, giving the trail depth and doing the heavy lifting, while the Hangover fires far down the trail to spot your landing runout and through corners, all with outstanding peripheral coverage so you don’t miss a thing at speed.
Everyone has USB charging ports all over nowadays, so we make sure you can use any of them with Evo and Hangover, including QC3.0-rated chargers for super fast recharge times, and not just some proprietary charger that you can only get from us.
But we took that concept one step further and added Pass-Thru Charging to allow you full access to all output modes of your light while charging from an off-the-shelf USB Power Bank, so that you can extend runtime for those epic adventures, without limiting the light available to you (bikepackers rejoice!). We even customized the included USB-C cable with a seal and right-angle head to make sure the lights are protected still and cables are easy to route.
Rock Solid Mounting
Mounts should be solid, quick to setup, and easy to adjust. Simple jobs, easy to overcomplicate. We leverage established mounting approaches for our lights to minimize the number of proprietary parts so you have options, and so that you’re not relying on some quirky, ornate tech that’s just different for different’s sake.
Hangover has low-profile built-in tabs for standard “action camera” mounts because they’re about as close to a standard as exists in the bike industry today, with a lot of new helmets including their own adapters already.
Evo holds firm with a 35mm clamp and simple shim for 31.8mm bars, no wiggly rubber straps here, and a one-handed quick-release mechanism so you can get ready for your ride in, like, 2 seconds.
Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, so we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses get to the mode you want.
Evo and Hangover share a common user interface with a single, large button that’s easy to feel through a thick winter glove in the dark, so you don’t need a light to find the switch on your light, while the four green indicators clearly convey mode and battery status without the need for a decoder.
Four simple modes cover the majority of use cases from set-it-and-forget-it pedally XC to long-climb-fast-descent Enduro rides – Adaptive / High / Medium / Low – and no SOS or seizure inducing strobes stuck in between.
We like to keep our lights simple on the outside for the user, but that doesn’t mean we’re skimping on the guts inside. The constant-current driver maintains rock solid regulation through the Cree LEDs over the entire voltage range of the genuine LG and Samsung battery cells with a unique battery monitoring algorithm to give you accurate feedback without interruption.
Complete with fast QC3.0 USB-C charging and Pass-Thru capability to boot, we engineer the electronics in both the Evo and Hangover to maximize efficiency and runtime while minimizing charge times, all without any proprietary connectors that could leave you stranded. We’re always pushing the limits internally to deliver new feature sets that provide real value to the rider, not just fancy names.
LEDs produce heat, they’re not magic, it’s just a fact. Getting the heat out of the LEDs efficiently without sending it into the rider’s hands is paramount for reliable and safe operation, so we pulled from our background in automotive lighting by employing magnesium for the thermal mass in Evo and Hangover to both reduce weight vs. aluminum and reduce the case touch-temperature.
Evo takes this a step further by using an industry-first Pass-Through Cooling Channel that lets airflow directly through the center of the light, pulling the heat straight out of the LEDs while keeping it away from your fingers. This means you can (attempt to) escape the summer heat in the desert of the Phoenix valley and Evo will keep pushing out full power without overheating. That’s pretty cool. (see what I did there?)
